Community liaison is an essential element of mine action programmes. It is based on a bilateral exchange of information between the affected community or communities and the liaison teams that work together closely before, during, and after mine clearance operations. On one hand, communication with the affected communities allows for the collection and prioritization of the requirements in terms of mine actions. On the other hand, communication also allows liaison teams to keep the community informed of the progress.  It is important for this exchange of information to provide tangible benefits to the community, since this ensures its collaboration and its participation in the mine clearance process.
