Hartmut Thoms joined FSD in early 2008 after working more than 10 years in Programme / Project Management positions in mine action programmes in different countries i.e Mozambique, Angola, Croatia(Eastern Slavonia), Yemen, Uganda contracted by an German commercial company and since 2000 by UNOPS.

He organized the first UN-certified mechanical demining trial (Mozambique); introduced a mine detection dog component within the Yemen Mine Action Programme and established the Uganda Mine Action Programme.

Hartmut Thoms served more than 20 years in the army of the former GDR mainly in strategic reconnaissance and served in this period four years as Defence Attache in Afghanistan.

After his military career he worked eight years as managing director of a commercial company specialized in technology transfer.

Last but not least he is proud of his five children and currently nine grand children.
