International Mine Awareness Day in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Since the inception of initial survey operations in 2002, FSD has implemented an integrated mine action programme in Tajikistan with a number of methodologies and initiatives; this has included non-technical survey teams, multi-purpose demining teams, mine dog detection teams and mechanical demining teams. FSD’s stockpile destruction project for disposal of weapons and ammunition has destroyed over 50 man portable air defence units and over 800 tonnes of conventional ordnance, explosives and weapons.
Currently FSD still implements a weapons and ammunition disposal programme in addition to a mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal capacity in Tajikistan. FSD also uses its Tajik HQ to coordinate regional operations in Badakhshan Province, NE Afghanistan and also to conduct some environmental heavy metal and uranium and obsolete pesticide destruction projects in Northern Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
